This is a translation of two stories by Yi Chōng-jun. The Wounded is translated by Jennifer Lee and The Abject is translated by yours truly. The Abject is also the basis of the film Secret Sunshine (2007) by master Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong (Poetry, Oasis, Peppermint Candy, Green Fish).
LJ is an educated Korean-American woman who graduated into a recession and works as a deli cashier on Saturdays and Sundays on top of working as a copy editor during the week. She examines the evolution of her hyphenated identity while wondering what her future will bring.
